With less coat between the collar and the skin, the width, weight, edge profile and construction of the collar can be more noticeable. A smooth short coat, a very fine sighthound coat and a denser short coat will all interact with a collar slightly differently.

The main considerations are how much of the coat the collar covers, whether hairs are likely to catch or tug, how much the collar moves against the neck, and whether repeated wear is likely to flatten or thin the coat.

Each has its own advantages, depending on your dog's coat, build and how you intend to use the collar. We can help you decide whether rolled leather or flat leather collar styles are best for your dog.
