Brass or Silver Hardware?

Writer: KegdogKegdog

When picking your dog's collar hardware, it can be difficult to pick between brass and silver for your needs. Let's compare the pros and cons between the two metals.

Brass

Water Safe - brass does not rust in the same way as other metals making it completely salt water safe. Perfect for dogs who like to swim.

Nickel Free - great if your dog has skin sensitivities to nickel.

Warm Tone - the colour of brass looks great on brown, red and cream coloured dogs. It also ages naturally and tends to look more luxurious.

Tarnish - instead of rust or corrosion, brass forms a tarnish which can transfer onto your dog's coat. If you have a light coloured dog, consider regularly polishing the brass and shampooing and tarnish off your dog's fur. With maintenance, this issue will subside.

If you have any questions about light coat colours and brass, please let us know as our Dalmatians all wear brass every day.

Silver

Low Maintenance - Resistant to most doggy wear and tear, silver hardware will look great for years with nothing more than a wipe down.

'Colour-Fast' - will not transfer colour onto white coat colours unless it is damaged.

Can Rust - Silver Hardware cannot be used in sea water or it will corrode very quickly.

Silver hardware is silver coloured and is not actually sterling silver or silver plated. Feel free to ask us anything about our hardware.
